Built for fast footwork and high shots

Badminton is quick. Players stop, push off and change direction all the time, so the floor needs the right grip and a little give. Too slippery and people fall; too hard and knees and ankles take the strain.

The shuttle also travels high, so most badminton courts are indoors, with enough ceiling height and lighting that doesn't shine into players' eyes. We plan the floor, the hall and the lights together.

Badminton court size and the space you need

A doubles court is 44 × 20 ft (13.40 × 6.10 m). You also need clear space around it and enough height above it.

Court (doubles)

13.40 × 6.10 m (44 × 20 ft)

Singles width

5.18 m (17 ft)

Clear space around the court

At least 2 m (6.5 ft) on every side

Total area for one court

About 17.40 × 10.10 m (57 × 33 ft)

Net height

1.55 m (5 ft 1 in) at the posts, 1.524 m (5 ft) at the centre

Line width

40 mm, in white or yellow

Ceiling height

9 m (about 30 ft) for competition play

Lighting

Bright, even and glare-free, placed so players don't look straight into the lights

Based on BWF (Badminton World Federation) guidelines.

Types of badminton courts we build

Wooden

A sprung hardwood floor with shock pads underneath. The feel most clubs and academies prefer.

PU

A seamless polyurethane floor, including our SmashAce™ PU system: anti-skid, with precise line marking.

Synthetic

PVC sports mats laid on a level slab. Quick to install and a good fit for halls that are being converted.

Outdoor

An acrylic court for open spaces. Wind affects the shuttle, so indoor or covered courts play better.

How an indoor badminton court is built, layer by layer

A good badminton floor starts with a level, dry slab. Damp or uneven slabs are what make floors lift, crack or go soft, so we sort out the base before the flooring goes down.

Around the court: lighting · net posts and net · wall colours that make the shuttle easy to see

After going through the older reviews here, I felt it was important to share my own experience. I recently worked with Decospaa Interiors, and while no company is perfect, I found their communication structured and their process transparent. Every concern I raised during the project was addressed through proper follow-ups. My experience did not reflect the extreme issues mentioned in older reviews, and I believe the company has improved its systems over the years. I must also mention that the owner has been exceptionally kind — always available to take my calls and address even the smallest concerns on a priority basis. From the initial discussion to the final handover, the entire process felt transparent and well-structured. Bella Mutha's calm and pleasant communication made things easy to understand. The team delivered quality work and showed full responsibility for every detail. A very smooth experience overall Thank you so much, and I look forward to working with you on multiple upcoming projects.

Badminton court FAQs

How much space do I need for a badminton court?

The court is 44 × 20 ft. With at least 2 m of clear space around it, plan for about 57 × 33 ft per court.

How much does a badminton court cost in India?

It depends on the number of courts, your slab or hall, the flooring type and the lighting. Send us your location, space and a few photos, or book a free site visit, and we'll give you an estimate.

Which flooring is best for badminton?

Wooden flooring gives the classic feel most clubs want. PU, like our SmashAce™ system, is seamless and easy to look after. Synthetic PVC mats are the quickest and most budget-friendly option.

What ceiling height does a badminton court need?

For competition play, about 9 m (30 ft) of clear height. Lower halls can still work for casual play, but high shots will hit the roof more often.

Can a badminton court be built outdoors?

Yes, with an acrylic surface. But wind pushes the shuttle around, so indoor or covered courts play much better.

Can you lay a court in an existing hall?

Usually, yes. If the slab is level and dry, we can lay PU, synthetic or wooden flooring on it. We check this on the site visit.

What maintenance does a badminton court need?

Keep it clean and dry, and ask players to use non-marking indoor shoes. Wooden floors need a dry hall; PU and synthetic floors just need regular cleaning.

Do you build badminton courts in Pune?

Yes. Our head office is in Pune, so we can visit your site, check the space, height and lighting, and suggest the right flooring. We build badminton courts for clubs, academies, schools, housing societies and builders in Pune and across India. The site visit is free.

Do you work outside Pune?

Yes. Our head office is in Pune, and we build courts across India.

Do you only do the flooring?

No. We can do the whole job, from the base slab to flooring, lighting and equipment. If you only need part of it, we can do that too.
